2014 Early Hearing Detection & Intervention Meeting

In its 13th year, the EHDI Meeting has built a strong reputation for bringing together a wide variety of attendees including those who: work in state Early Hearing Detection and Intervention programs; assist in EHDI efforts on the federal level; provide screening, diagnostic and early intervention support at the state/ local level to young children with hearing loss and their families; champion Medical Home activities within each state; are parents of children with hearing loss; or are deaf or hard-of-hearing adults who are helping to expand opportunities for young children with hearing loss. EHDI Meeting participants will range from state and local programs to the federal level and from academics to families.

Disability Policy Seminar Orientation For Students, Trainees, and Early Career Professionals

This webinar, presented by Kim Musheno, Director of Public Policy at AUCD, offered students, trainees and early career professionals an orientation to the policy issues and current legislation one can expect to learn more about at the 2014 Disability Policy Seminar. In addition to this content, attendees learned the basics of how to meet with Congressional representatives and deliver a unified message about federally funded programs that benefit people with disabilities.

The Gatlinburg Conference continues its tradition as one of the premier conferences in the United States for behavioral scientists conducting research in intellectual and related developmental disabilities. The Gatlinburg Conference on Research and Theory in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities was established in the 1960's as a forum for the exchange of scientific findings and as a mechanism to promote scientific networking.

Supporting Development of Infants Born Preterm: Do Our Policies Match the Needs?

This webinar started with a review of developmental outcomes for infants born preterm. The importance of early detection and intervention will be discussed and compared with Early Intervention policies. Participants were challenged to consider if our current policies meet the needs of infants born preterm in light of recent advances in research.

Linking Evidence-based Practices in Behavioral Health Across Services Using Systems Change to Improve Quality of Life for Children and Adults with Dual Diagnosis (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness)

Improving behavioral health outcomes for individuals with IDD requires a framework for training and interagency communication across a variety of educational and human services. This webinar described statewide efforts for improving behavioral health outcomes for all children by working with mental health centers and other organizations to evaluate effectiveness, build the internal capacity, promote wellness, and improve communication.
